3 × 315 t historical buildings relocated by HEAVYLT SPMT

A HEAVYLT SPMT configuration relocated three historical buildings, each weighing 315 t — demonstrating precise, low-impact movement of heritage structures.

In December 2012, three historic diaolou — the fortified multi-storey towers characteristic of the Pearl River Delta — were moved intact in Guanlan, Shenzhen, South China. Each structure weighed 315 t.

The binding constraint on a job like this is not weight but room. A heritage tower cannot be dismantled and rebuilt without losing the fabric that makes it worth preserving, so it has to travel as one piece, and the site offered very little space in which to manoeuvre that piece.

The SPMT's +130° / −100° electronic steering was the decisive capability. Being able to rotate and translate the platform within a tight envelope meant the towers could be picked up, turned and set down without the long approach runs a conventional trailer would need.

All three buildings were relocated successfully.
